We are providing training and support to volunteers across East Sussex and nationally to take action on the climate and cost of living crisis.

What is an Energy Champion?

An Energy Champion is a volunteer who gives energy advice to local people to help them bring down their energy bills and save energy.

Energy Champions might also set up Community Energy projects such as thermal imaging for local homes, solar streets, hosting energy workshops and more.

Energy Champions are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable local people. Energy Champions are good with people and happy to attend local events and chat to local people about their energy use. No specific background is needed as full training is provided.

The Energy Champion role is very rewarding as it’s a chance to genuinely help people in a very tangible way. Energy Champions do something about climate change by bringing down carbon emissions and help address the cost of living by helping people bring their energy costs down.

What training will I receive?

All Energy Champions must attend the full day in person introductory training, followed by a 2.5 hour zoom community engagement training. By completing the training you will have the basic knowledge you need about how to support people with their energy costs, in particular the different ways they could save energy at home.

During the introductory training you will learn the basics of how to give energy advice. Including how to help people bring down their bills, support schemes available for people and how to save energy in the home.

The Zoom training will take you through creating a community engagement plan. It will also cover the policies and procedures you need to think about to keep yourself and your energy advice clients safe.
