Introduction to Energy Advice

Length: 3 hours
Delivered in person (ideally), otherwise online training

  • How to find someone the cheapest and most suitable tariff for them
  • Understanding pre-pay and credit meters
  • Understanding your bill
  • Accessing the Warm Home Discount
  • How to add people to the Priority Services Register
  • How to help people struggling to pay their bills

Saving Energy and Accessing funding Training Session

Length: 3  hours
Delivered in person (ideally), otherwise online training

  • Introduction to heat loss in the home
  • Energy efficiency in the home
  • Introduction to ECO and other sources of funding
  • How to have impactful conversations around energy saving behaviour change

Ongoing support

  • Induction and welcome.
  • 12 months of telephone/ video call and email support for Energy Champions as needed.

Energy Champions will do most of their learning “on the job”. There will be many questions and unusual cases that crop up along the way. Having a point of contact for Energy Champions so they are able to get support with their cases will help their learning and ensure that residents are being given the correct advice for their circumstances.

A monthly team zoom will give Energy Champions a chance to discuss how they are finding the work and discuss any questions that arise in the month. It will also be a time for mutual support. The Energy Champions might be surprised by how emotional the job can be, they will hear about people going through very difficult times and suffering with bad mental and physical health. A monthly supervision ensures that the Champions are emotionally supported by the supervisor and their peers. It will also help identify any training needs.
