Energy Local

In 2017/18 we will be working with 100 homes to pilot an innovative scheme called Energy Local as part of CAN.

Energy Local is a new way to enable local communities to work together to match locally owned generation with local demand in order to reduce bills and carbon emissions. Communities can benefit from pooling and using their own generation directly rather than selling it at a loss.

In Hastings this means installing smart meters and home energy management systems so that households can make the most of solar energy even when there are no panels on their roofs. A “club” of residents are helped to switch their energy demand away from peak times, to store energy when it is cheap and reduce their use when it is expensive.

Members of the Energy Local pilot will give regular feedback and will shape how the project will be rolled out more widely.
