The winter lockdown has arrived and many of us find ourselves at home a lot more than usual and this means an increase in heating costs for many.
The government has made it very easy to claim tax relief on your heating costs at a set rate of £6 a week. They have set up a microsite so this can be done without having to do a tax return. https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/working-at-home
In recognition of the uncertainty this year you will receive the tax relief backdated for the whole year even if you have only been working from home for some of the time. Each qualifying person in the house can also claim it as it’s an individual measure.
